How reading a book literally changed my life

I didn’t grow up in a family of business owners. I grew up around “workers.”

Go to college, get a job. That was the expectation. And that’s what I did.

While college was fun, having a job always felt suffocating to me. But I honestly didn’t know there was another way to go.

Starting a business felt like something “other people did,” not people like me.

Until I read a life-changing book back in 2009. What did I read?

The 4-Hour Workweek by Tim Ferriss.

That book was like a permission slip. And my life has been radically different ever since.

I Knew Immediately That I Wanted to Start a Business

After I read The 4-Hour Workweek, I realized that starting a business was actually within reach – even for someone like me.

I wanted to create a rich life. Not necessarily by making a lot of money. I wanted to feel fulfilled. I wanted to help people and make a difference in the world.

I rolled through several ideas of what kind of business I should start. But I landed on offering web design services to small businesses.

I had been learning web design basically as a hobby, and it didn’t take long to realize that I loved it.

So I decided to get serious and become a web designer.

With a helper’s heart, I truly believed that I could help small businesses improve their business with a new website.

And Unleashed Web Design was born.

My Story

Having worked with solopreneurs and small businesses since 2013 as a freelance web designer and copywriter, I noticed that the entrepreneurs who were coming to me wanted to make a difference.

They believed they needed better design or catchier copy…but what they really needed was foundational work to strengthen their brand. When the foundational elements of who your perfect customers really are, why you’re the best option for them to choose, what makes your brand stand out from the rest, etc. aren’t clear, no amount of new design or copy will help.

I know what it’s like to start from the bottom and work your way up as a solopreneur.

I’m on a mission to help as many solopreneurs with a dream of making a difference in the world see that dream become a reality. The world needs us visionaries to serve as many people as we possibly can.

That’s why I started BrandStrength…to help solopreneurs and small business owners strengthen the foundation of their business so that they can reach the right people, get better results with them, and make a bigger impact in the world.

Once you create your BrandStrength Offering Lens, you’ll be able to quickly analyze growth options so you can select the one that makes the most sense for your vision.

You don’t have to grow your business beyond the size you’re comfortable with. But as it grows, you still need to be able to effectively manage and handle the growth.
